CoastWatch Utilities
The CoastWatch Utilities is a software package for viewing, inspecting, and processing NOAA/NESDIS CoastWatch satellite data products. It is designed for scientific data formats that are not practical to open with standard image viewers.
What It Includes
The package provides both:
- Graphical tools for interactive data exploration
- Command-line tools for repeatable processing and automation
Typical tasks include:
- Inspecting file contents and computing summary statistics
- Converting formats, sampling data, and performing variable math
- Creating rendered images and other visual products
- Resampling data between map projections and correcting navigation
Availability
The CoastWatch Utilities package and latest user’s guide is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux from the NOAA CoastWatch website. The user’s guide describes installation and system requirements.

The CoastWatch Utilities Online Course provides a structured introduction to the software for processing satellite imagery and derived data products.
The course covers:
